September 12, 2008 | | Comments 0

The hybrid Nissan Altima continues to gain popularity among buyers. Due in part to rising gas prices, hybrids overall have increased greatly in popularity over the last few years. The Nissan Altima’s features stand out among the pack, and offer buyers a high degree of quality, style, and luxury that they just can’t find among many of the other hybrids.

Underneath the hood of the Nissan Altima Hybrid is a 4-cylinder 2.5 liter DOHC engine. The engine is paired with a CVT (continuously variable transmission). The 158-horsepower gas engine and the 40-horsepower electric motor work together well, and the change from electric to gas is almost unnoticeable. The Altima hybrid is able to reach speeds similar to other cars in its class, making it an especially high-performing hybrid vehicle.

The Altima hybrid utilized the same kind of regenerative braking system that you can find in Toyota hybrids. This system utilizes the breaking procedure to channel energy into the batteries, meaning that the batteries never have to be charged manually.

The Nissan Altima gets amazing gas mileage. The EPA estimates put the city driving numbers at 42 miles per gallon, while the Altima hybrid will get about 36 miles per gallon when on the highway.
In addition to using less gas, the Altima hybrid is extremely environmentally friendly. The Altima hybrid achieved the AT-PZEB classification, which stands for “Advanced Technology Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle. What this means is that the Altima hybrid releases many fewer evaporative emissions, making it a much cleaner vehicle than others on the road.

These environmental specifications mean that the Altima hybrid qualifies for the Alternative Motor Vehicle Credit, which helps make it a very attractive option from a cost perspective.

The Altima hybrid has plenty of safety features, as well. Driver, passenger seat, and side headrest airbags are standard on the Altima Hybrid.

If you’re looking for an economical car with plenty of room and style, look no further than the Altima hybrid.
