Proud To Sell Nissan Cars
It’s a good week to be a Nissan dealer. Renault Nissan is kicking off plans for the new plant in India, the CEO has been issuing exciting statements about design changes to come, and now Nissan North America has made life a little bit better for one Tennessee man.
Reggie Whittemore is in charge of the RBI baseball program in Nashville, Tennessee. RBI stands for Reviving Baseball in the Inner City, and Whittemore is busy and active getting the program running. He says he puts no fewer than 400 miles a week on his pickup, and the old one was starting to die. From picking up and dropping off players and equipment to grabbing food for the players and just getting around, his truck has been busy and it’s seen better days.
Nissan stepped up to the plate and donated a 2008 Nissan Titan Crew Cab pickup to the organization, and Whittemore says he’s ecstatic. This is the second major donation Nissan North America has made to Reviving Baseball in the Inner City — the last one was cash.
“You look at the organization’s track record and involvement in the community, and it’s in line with what we try to do,” says Nicole Brinson, who is a philanthropy and diversity communications specialist for Nissan.
Whittemore says that his chapter of RDI is one of the largest in the country, and that many players takes up a lot of resources. They’ve tried to make it as easy as possible for corporations to give in-kind donations, but he knows it’s not always easy when financial times are tough.
“I wish we had more corporate donors like Nissan,” he says. “They’ve been a supporter the last three years. Last year they gave us money, but we’ve been talking to them about a vehicle, and this year was the year. We really needed it to get back and forth to where we need to go.”
Score one for the home team.
