Nissan’s Versa Deal
Nissan is getting set to make customers and offer they can’t refuse on a bare bones model of one of its most popular models. The Nissan Versa, a no-frills edition of the vehicle of course, is going to sell for less than $10,000. Yes, you read that right.
Nissan is hoping that they can capitalize on the hard economic situations that many people are in by offering a reliable vehicle for a great price.
On Friday, the Japanese carmaker said it would begin selling a cut-rate version of its Versa sedan in the U.S. for $9,990. That’s more than $1,000 less than the cheapest new car currently sold in America. The Versa is made in Mexico and will be available starting November 18, 2008. The car will come without power windows and without air conditioning.
Of course, the sale represents a question that many other car manufacturers may soon be asking of the North American consumer: Will they opt for the feature-laden but pricier subcompacts that many automakers are now betting on? Or will they pick the most affordable car regardless of any features or bells and whistles?
Naturally, Nissan is hoping for a bit of both with its stripped Versa. With car companies trying just about anything to put butts in seats, Nissan cars are hoping that a simpler, gentler approach will ease the pain on the pocketbook and move more units.
