Nissan’s September Sales

October 01, 2008 | | Comments 0

With the economic downturn in full effect, it isn’t particularly big news that many car companies are experiencing declining sales.

Nissan North America Inc. today reported September 2008 sales of 59,565 units contrasted against 94,269 units a year ago, marking a decrease of 36.8 percent. Sales of Nissan Division vehicles declined 38.4 percent, while sales of Infiniti Division vehicles fell by 24.1 percent.

Nissan’s numbers are about on par with the rest of the automotive industry, which is experiencing a significant downturn due to a combination of issues. The economy is in worrying shape, with Washington continuing to fudge on the details and bicker between the political parties. Some markets have responded due to hope for a solution, but after the single biggest decline in market history recently, a lot of sectors will have a tough time mounting any semblance of recovery.

Despite this news, companies like Nissan are aimed towards the future. There is a desire by Nissan to produce cars that will be environmentally efficient and will help lower the fuel costs of the driver. With technological advances to make these vehicles possible, Nissan cars like the Altima and the Maxima will likely continue to sell well by contrast.

To ensure consistency in its global sales reporting, Nissan North America calculates monthly variances on a straight percentage basis, unadjusted for the number of selling days in the month. This September had 24 selling days and September 2007 featured 25 selling days.
