Nissan Preps for Sales Slowdown

October 13, 2008 | | Comments 0

Most car companies operating in our modern times are more than aware that the economic crisis impacts business to a considerable degree. Sales slumps are not related to the goodness or reliability of a car company in this economic climate, but rather are related to the simple reality of living in today’s business environment. The time is far from ripe for buying a new car and, despite the fact that companies like Nissan have countless wonderful vehicles to choose from, people aren’t buying new vehicles.

So what does a good company do in light of this sort of sales slowdown?

The first factor that a company looks to do is simply to recognize the problem. The problem of economic strife is relatively easy to recognize, so most companies already have this factor out of the way. Nissan is no different, which has led the company to come up with an action plan to prepare for slower sales.

The second factor is to recognize where the bulk of the slowdowns are taking place and take action. For Nissan, that meant the cutting of 1,680 factory jobs in Spain as the country was gripped with economic strife and the costs were driven up. While nobody likes to cut jobs, Nissan’s responsibility is to the shareholder.

Finally, the company needs to alter production of Nissan cars to meet the lower demand for the vehicles. By cutting some factory jobs and trying to focus on stronger markets, Nissan can more accurately match its production with the real situation in the economy.
