Another relatively new entry to the Nissan line up is the Nissan Murano. Originally introduced to the American market in 2003, the Murano is a crossover vehicle and one of the largest in its class. It’s also available in Europe — one of the only Nissan’s with the same name across the ocean — but only in one version at this point.
Until 2007, the Nissan Murano was Nissan’s only entry into the crossover market. When the Nissan Rogue came about that year, the Murano had company in the class. Despite the luxury car feel, the Nissan Murano is officially considered to be a truck and was nominated for the North American Truck of the Year award in 2003.
The newest generation of Murano is coming out in the 2009 models, as Nissan skipped the 2008 year completely to rev up for the release of the redesign. The new Murano bears a strong resemblance to the Rogue but maintains its unique Murano feel. Like any self respecting new Nissan, the Murano offers new features targeted to modern American buyers — Murano owners can have iPod integration, a touch screen navigation system, rain sensing windshield wipers, power fold-up rear seats and more.
Along with its siblings the Altima and the Maxima, the new Nissan Murano is based on the Nissan D platform. It comes in at 265 horse power and features Continuously Variable Transmission with Adaptive Shift Control. With an available back up camera and lush interior, the Murano is the crossover vehicle of choice for discerning consumers who want more get up and go than your average sedan can provide.
