Nissan’s Infiniti Moving Up Safety Ranks
In a closely watched annual survey of vehicle safety, Infiniti has jumped from number nine to number two in the world where safe and quality cars are concerned. Thousands of new car owners were surveyed three months after purchasing their new 2008 model cars and asked a laundry list of questions to see what problems they’d experienced in the first 90 days of ownership.
The survey is considered extremely important in the automotive industry, and it tracks complaints and concerns of new car owners within 90 days of new car ownership. The results of the J.D. Power and Associates survey are watched by the automotive industry and are known to be highly effective in shaping consumer opinions of the brands to buy. This means big news for Infiniti.
Nissan’s vice president of total customer satisfaction, Kevin Martin, advised Reuters that the dramatic increase in survey rankings was largely due to the improvements they’ve made to the QX sport utility vehicle, an American made car.
J.D. Power gave a 228 question survey to over 81,000 respondents, all of whom had recently purchased a 2008 model year vehicle. Vehicles were ranked in order based on the number of problems per 100 responses. Interestingly, Jeep ranked last with an average of 167 problems out of every 100 of their cars sold.
Japanese car makers dominated the survey, with Toyota’s Prius being given new car honors and Honda taking three top car segments. American car manufacturers struggled through the survey, with various makes and models jumping and falling within the results and compared to last year’s responses.
